Tilia cordata

Small-leaved lime

It is a sturdy deciduous deciduous tree with a coarse, high arching crown that grows to 30 metres or more. The stout trunk is covered with thin, dark and shallowly longitudinally wrinkled bark. The buds are black-brown, ovoid. The leaves are long-stalked, asymmetrically heart-shaped and glabrous, with only rusty tufts of hairs at the angles of the large veins on the underside of the leaves (unlike the large-leaved lime, which has whitish hairs).
